X profile limits, in one place
These are the limits the writer checks. We last checked them on November 6, 2026 against X's Help Center and developer documentation. X changes its product from time to time, so if something here stops matching what you see in the app, tell us.
| Field | Limit | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Bio | 160 characters | Emoji built from several parts (flags, skin tones, families) can use more than one. |
| Display name | 50 characters | Shown next to every post and reply. Long names get cut off in replies. |
| Username (@handle) | 15 characters | Letters, numbers and underscores only. No spaces, dashes or dots. |
| Location | 30 characters | Free text. It doesn't have to be a real place, but a real one helps local search. |
| Website | One link | A separate field, so a link here doesn't cost bio characters. |
| Pinned post | One post | Sits at the top of your profile until you unpin it. |

Questions
How long can an X bio be?
X allows up to 160 characters in the bio. The display name can be up to 50 characters, the @username up to 15 and the location up to 30. The website field is separate, so a link there doesn't use bio characters. We last checked these limits on November 6, 2026.
Do emoji count as one character in an X bio?
A simple emoji usually counts as one, but many emoji are built from several pieces joined together, such as flags, skin-tone variants and family emoji. Those can count as two to seven characters. The writer counts each piece, which is the cautious way to measure.
Where should I put my pronouns on X?
X doesn't currently have a separate pronouns field, so most people add them to the display name in parentheses or at the start or end of the bio, written with a slash, like she/her. The writer can place them for you and checks the format.
Are these bio templates free to use?
Yes. Every template in the library was written for Twit Profiles. Copy one as it is or change it as much as you like. You don't need to credit us.
Does Twit Profiles log in to my X account?
No. Nothing connects to X. The writer runs in your browser, your draft is saved only in this browser, and you paste the result into X yourself.
